Convalescent Plasma Donation

Our institute is an Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) approved site (No. 38) for Clinical Trial for “A Phase II, Open Label, Randomized Controlled Trial to Assess the Safety and Efficacy of Convalescent Plasma to Limit COVID-19 Associated Complications in Moderate DiseasePLACID Trial. The department of Transfusion Medicine is the principle-coordinating department with ICMR on behalf of the institute. Other clinical departments collaborating are Paediatric Medicine, Paediatric Hemato-oncology and Internal Medicine (from District Hospital, Noida).

  • Am I eligible to donate?
    • Any adult individual who has completely recovered from COVID-19 infection is eligible to donate plasma.
    • The COVID-19 patient should be completely recovered from the infection and is symptom free for last 28 days or 14 days after second RT-PCR negative report.
    • Transfusion Medicine physician of our institute may assess further eligibility for a plasmapheresis.

  • Where do I go to donate?
    • You can visit blood center, first floor, SSPH & PGTI on any working day between 9 AM to 4 PM.

  • What is Convalescent Plasma?
    • Plasma is the liquid part of our blood. “Convalescent Plasma” is the plasma collected from COVID-19 recovered patients.
    • It is due to the fact that a recovered COVID-19 patient will have appropriate infection fighting antibodies, which will boost the immune system of the sick patient and may help in recovery.
